Canoe and Kayak
So let’s get back to the basics. What is the difference between a canoe and a kayak? Well, a kayak is has a covered in-deck and is paddled from the seating position. The paddles used for kayaks are usually double ended. The canoe, on the other hand, is open with turned-up ends. The canoe has single ended paddles and canoes are paddled in either kneeling or seating positions. Why would you take a canoe and kayak holiday or choose these as an activity?
Some of the best outdoor scenery can be seen via canoe or kayak. For example, when you take a tour to Africa, the best way to see wildlife in abundance is to canoe along the river where the animals congregate regularly to drink and splash about in the water. On the other hand you can take trips in New Zealand or Vancouver for example to kayak alongside whales!
Fishing
What’s the big idea? Fishing is a sport and like any sport, you’re either passionate about it or you simply are not. Fishing as a sport of for fun is also known as angling, and you would be called an angler. At most destinations you visit, there are hundreds of tour operators offering fishing tours. You can rent essentials for your fishing trip from the tour operators and these include amongst others, the fishing rod, .
There are different types of fishing, for example: fly fishing, freshwater feashing, saltwater fishing to name a few. The fun is all in the catch. Some of the fishing tour guides teach you a few basics before you go on your trip. These include what bait to use for what kind of fish, the type of knot to tie, and a couple of tricks and techniques used for fishing. The best part of fishing is it can be a family activity and is suitable for both adults and children.
Sailing
Sailing boats are propelled by the wind on the sails. Most recreational fun seekers take daysailing trips. Daysailing, typically means the visitor takes a sailing trip that can last from a few hours to practically the whole day. Luckily for most of the sailing tour operators, they do all the work while you enjoy either a cruise on the ocean taking pictures of dolphins, or sipping a cool cocktail. For the more serious sailing sport people, some tours guides offer you the opportunity to learn some sailing basics while onboard. Some say sailing is more of an art than a sport. Windsurfing
Now this is real fun. Windsurfing requires a board that is powered by a single sail. The sail is in turn powered by the wind. Windsurfing can be done on flat water or waves depending on the skill level of the surfer. It requires some coaching but within a few hours of learning, you’ll get the hang of things. There are different types of boards used for windsurfing depending on the skill level of the surfer. Typically for recreational purposes, the freeride board is used. On most beaches where you can take windsurfing as an activity, there are operators nearby who can provide you with all you need to go windsurfing.
