Safari Holiday in Kenya

Mar 27, 06:32 PM

Kenya is one of the most popular destinations in Africa for a safari holiday and understandably so. Check out the MyDestination site about Kenya. Kenya has forty national parks and game reserves; Tsavo national park being one of the largest in the world. Tsavo national park is divided in to two areas; Tsavo East and Tsavo West, and both landscapes are rich and diverse; from beautiful rolling plains and grassland to volcanic hills and densely wooded areas.

Tsavo is the ultimate safari destination with such a huge variety of wildlife. Here you can find one of the largest single populations of elephant as well as lion, gazelle, cheetah, crocodile, hippo, kudu, leopard and herds of up to 1000 buffalo to name but a few. Another of the main attractions of Tsavo West is Mzima Springs. These two large pools are continually refilled with fresh spring water and serve as watering holes for many species. The upper pool has an observation tank built into it where you can view the wildlife and maybe even catch a glimpse of the hippo as they bathe.

The word ‘Safari’ means ‘long journey’ in Swahili but at Tsavo you have the option of making your Kenya safari holiday as long or a short as you like. With options from between just 1 nights safari as a taster, to a full 7 nights safari experience, with several nights spent at the park itself.

Tsavo is in very close proximity to Mombasa, Kenya’s second largest city, with a population of 900,000. Here you can find some wonderful hotels in which to spend part of your holiday including The Voyager Beach Resort, Kenya Bay Beach Hotel and The Funzi Keys. There are also several very popular B&B’s in Mombasa, one of which is Le Petit Paris. Le Petit Paris has a great reputation and a friendly, comfortable atmosphere with excellent, home cooked food.

During your safari holiday it’s worth sampling the local cuisine; one particular restaurant in Mombasa popular with holiday makers is Jumba Ruins Monsoons. This wonderful restaurant is set on a beautiful, peaceful beach and is accessed through old ruins. This isn’t the sort of place to go for a quick bite to eat, it’s an experience worth taking your time over and will help to make your Kenyan safari holiday all the more memorable.
